Was Marie Kondo my first life coach?

A self-help shelf loves to see me coming.

In college I gravitated to books about how to slim down, eat better, etc. (beset by the terrible body image that seems to be a hallmark of young womanhood in our society. Ick.)

In grad school it was about leadership, relationships, how to "manage up".

And then later, books about yoga, philosophy, and manifesting.

But the one that had the most immediate (and unexpected) impact on my life was a little book called The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.

It's kind of a joke now, but this was the first book that made me understand the concept of trusting my intuition.

Kondo's instructions to look for objects in your home that "spark joy", and her permission to use that as the primary criteria for what to keep in your life?

It really was life-changing magic, for me at least.

Before that I had assumed, somehow, that there was a set of objective criteria for doing everything right. Not only for how to declutter my home, but also for how to eat healthy, how to take care of my body, how to act like a professional, how to be a good partner, a good daughter, a good mom.

Kondo's book is the one that flipped the switch in my brain that I can't turn back off.

It helped me feel, in my body, in every cell of my being, that there is a right way for me. Not an objective "right way". And that the best tool I had for figuring out the right way was to tune in to my body and physical awareness.

I created Good Girl Deprogramming and Rebel Alliance Mastermind to help more women experience this shift.

(Because not everyone gets as turned on by throwing out multiple garbage-bags worth of worldly possessions as I do. )

Learning to pay attention to how you feel? It's hard, after a lifetime of people telling you that you're "too emotional" or that your feelings are somehow incorrect.

Learning to trust your feelings? It's even harder, after a lifetime of honoring other people's feelings and judgements over your own.

Learning to act from that place of self-trust? It's the most powerful thing in the world. And it's really hard to do when you're surrounded by people who are still full-up with the belief that there is an objective right way to do life.

It's not too late to claim this transformation for yourself.

I'd love for you to come on this journey with us <3

This week’s card is: XII The Hanged Man The Hanged Man. In the picture today this person hangs, comfortably suspended from a branch by a strong rope. They are hanging upside down, but the body language speaks of comfort and ease. And what’s more? They are holding the rope themself - keeping themself stuck here. This is a metaphor if ever there was one. It begs us to ask the questions: Where and How are we keeping ourselves stuck? Where are we holding ourselves back? And, how has that very...

Ok dear ones, It's been a week. I know you're feeling it too. Clients and friends and family and myself.... all of us are living in the strange and uncomfortable limbo of an outer world that seems to be spiraling more and more out of control.... and a daily life that looks very much the same. It feels strange and surreal. And, right now, it doesn't feel like we have much control. Today's card gives me comfort: From the Eternal Visions Illuminated Tarot by Matt Hughes The queen of swords is...
