This week’s card is: The Hanged Man. In the picture today this person hangs, comfortably suspended from a branch by a strong rope. They are hanging upside down, but the body language speaks of comfort and ease. And what’s more? They are holding the rope themself - keeping themself stuck here. This is a metaphor if ever there was one. It begs us to ask the questions:
On Saturday I had an amazing conversation with one of my clients about the awful feeling of being stuck by your own choices and habits. If only you could be braver you could leave your comfort zone, which actually doesn’t feel that comfortable anymore, and start Your Life™️. So WHY are you holding yourself back? To accept the answer you’re going to have to let go of some of your judgement, and stop beating yourself up so much. Because here’s the thing: You feel comfortable here for a reason. The very habits you blame for keeping you stuck? They kept you safe first. Your habit of trying to take responsibility for the feelings of everyone in your family, friend group, and workplace? You didn’t learn it by accident. It kept you safe as a child in a world and a family full of people who kept making their feelings your problem. The procrastination that keeps you from reaching your potential? It kept you safe from your fear of failure, allowing you to tell yourself “but I didn’t really try” each time you didn’t get the grades you wanted, or win the contest you entered. The overeating every time you’re bored or unhappy or stressed? It kept you safe from having to confront emotions that were too big for you to handle on your own at a time when, honestly, no one was available to teach you how to handle them any other way. It’s time to stop beating yourself up for forming these habits in the first place. Instead, THANK THEM. They kept you safe. They got you here. And… they won’t get you where you are going next. Today’s Journal Prompt:
For the Hanged Man, the only thing scarier than staying here, dangling upside down from a tree branch, is the fall into the unknown when they let go. I’m so sorry, there really is no way to know what happens when you decide it’s time to venture into the unknown, the new, and the next. So if you’re not ready to let go yet, that’s totally fine. If you are? That’s the whole reason I created Good Girl Deprogramming. It’s like the parachute you take with you as you jump, because you weren’t sure yet whether or not you’d be able to fly. Ok dear ones, It's been a week. I know you're feeling it too. Clients and friends and family and myself.... all of us are living in the strange and uncomfortable limbo of an outer world that seems to be spiraling more and more out of control.... and a daily life that looks very much the same. It feels strange and surreal. And, right now, it doesn't feel like we have much control. Today's card gives me comfort: From the Eternal Visions Illuminated Tarot by Matt Hughes The queen of swords is...
Ok so the day I bought my house the realtor (not my realtor, Barbara, who is perfect and fabulous but the seller's realtor, who I had only just met) asked me when I was due. And I made a silly video about it. And I put it on the internet. And honestly, I have no idea why but now it's gotten over 500,000 views on TikTok and 35,000 on Instagram and today I got a message from a reporter at Newsweek who wanted to get some follow-up questions for a clickbait article, I guess. Is this fame?...
