You've changed - but they still expect the old you

After years of unlearning, deprogramming, and creating a life that actually fits me…

I moved back in with my parents for a while.

And holy hell.

I had experienced this in small doses when I'd come home for visits and holidays, and I couldn't quite put my finger on what made me feel so stagnant when I was in my parent's house, staying in my old bedroom (or, more recently, in the guest room)

But when I was home for a longer stretch? I could feel the old role creeping back in.

The one they needed me to play so they could feel like everything was okay.

The one I used to play without even realizing I had a choice.

I’d been living a new script—building my coaching business, showing up fully, holding boundaries, saying what I needed.

But back in their house?

I felt the pull to shrink again.

To be agreeable. Palatable. “Fine.”

To have no needs, and to not bother anyone.

And here’s what that experience taught me:

Even when your family doesn’t say it out loud, they often expect you to revert.

To go back to the role that keeps the system comfortable.

But that doesn't mean you have to do it.

Even if they don’t understand.

Even if it gets messy.

But.... it will lead to some sort of re-scripting. And the process might not be smooth.

If you’re in that space—where you’re trying to stay true to yourself but still feel the pull of your old role—I want you to know you’re not alone.

And I want to help.

This is exactly what we work on in Good Girl Deprogramming, my 1:1 coaching container.

We untangle who you are from who you’ve been taught to be—whether that’s at work, in your family, or in your own mind.

Because you don’t need to keep performing a role that was never really you.

It’s not about burning bridges.

It’s about building a new home inside yourself.

Hi [Name], I’ve been writing a ton this August—and while I haven't even used my tracker’s “fill in” feature for skipped days, it’s not because I’ve been perfect. Some days I write thousands of words. Other days, I don’t write at all. But I’m proud of myself for showing up consistently. Actual excerpt from my 750 words app. And that word—consistently—comes up a lot with my clients. They tell me things like: “I work out, but not consistently.” “I eat healthy, but not consistently.” “I journal,...
