🧚‍♀️ Magical Mondays: The Both And

You contain multitudes.

You already know this, of course, but what to do with that information? Luckily this week the cards are helping us figure it out. So grab your notebook and your weekly planner, and get ready to learn a little more about those multitudes inside you.

Hi! Welcome to Magical Mondays, where every week I draw a card for us to give some guidance and direction in a world that... well, you know. If you got this email forwarded, you can click the link below to subscribe so you don't miss out!

The Magician and The Moon

It sounds like a great fantasy novel, but really it's just our reading for this week. Normally I draw one card but these two popped out together before I even finished shuffling the deck.

The guides wanted to make sure we knew it was a Message.

We are never just one thing, and when we try to act as if we are we can get ourselves into some weird situations.

In fact, we are often several contradictory things at once. This week we are called to explore the idea of balance not as Equal Parts of Everything, but instead as a cycling in and out of.

You've heard that "all work and no play" is bad and leads to burnout. And that's right, but you've also felt the restless discomfort that comes from "all rest no work". And that's not great either.

Is there a magical perfect amount of each of these things?

A golden ratio of work to rest, of solo time to social time, of one thing to another that, if we could just figure it out, would keep us happy and balanced forever?

We often think of balance as a single place that we can somehow reach, and then finally, finally, we can just stop and stand still and not have to be working so hard to keep afloat.

But that's not what balance is. It's constant movement. A pendulum swing. A revolving door.

Why now?

If you read last week's email you know it was a time of deep rest. Taking it super slow. Doing less. Even less than that.

Well, first off, CONGRATULATIONS on actually resting!!!! It can (weirdly) feel super uncomfortable to be in rest mode. I'm proud of you for sticking with it!*

So, this week, you might be tempted to go even harder to make up for that time you were resting. You might feel the need to "catch up", which is a fun little variant of the long-held belief that we need to earn our rest.

DON'T DO THAT.

It's a trap.

Instead, this week you'll want to cycle in and out between your opposites, instead of going really hard on one.

How to work this into your week:

  1. Reflection Prompt: What are your opposite parts? I'm talking about the things you love to do and be that simply can't coexist at the same time. Like, solo quiet time and hosting dinner parties. Snuggling on the couch and marathon training. Hyper-focused work sprints and quality time with your partner. Make a list of some of these that are relevant to your life right now, and make a note if you notice any other dichotomies come up during the week.
  2. Reflection Prompt: Are any of your cycles feeling way out of balance? It might be you're overworking (or underworking), or it might be that you've been favoring one hobby recently at the expense of another. Or maybe you've been having a lot of social engagements lately and you need some introvert time. Notice in which ways you're feeling imbalanced and imagine ways to fix that this week.
  3. Action Item: Plan out your week, or, if you've already done that (extra credit! Top marks! 10 points to Gryffindor!) go back and edit your plan to include aspects of BOTH dualities this week. Actually schedule in some rest time, as well as work time. Schedule a solo date as well as the catch up with your friend. Remember, it's not about compromise this week, it's about letting yourself indulge in two different opposites!

Love,

Megan

*You know how I know you took the advice from last week's email? Because the guidance this week was SO different.

You know those times when you keep pulling the same card over and over again, or getting similar readings each time you ask a question? That happens when you don't take action, or don't act as if you've received the message that comes through.

We all do it sometimes. But if you find yourself doing it a lot? Book a discovery call with me. Because Good Girl Deprogramming gets women unstuck FAST.

I don't normally care much for my Facebook Memories, but today I saw one that made me think. This woman would have been thrilled to know that in 4 years: She finally had her first profitable year in her life coaching biz She moved to New York and bought a perfect little house in the Hudson Valley She's still teaching yoga, and it's still her favorite way to meet people She's a practicing witch Her kid is the most amazing person she's ever met The smut she reads has somehow gotten even...

Did you know that in the witch's calendar Halloween marks the end of one year's cycle, and the start of another? So, in a very real way, for those of us in the northern hemisphere, it is time for a fresh start, and for a whole new journey. This week's card is a reminder of that. The Four of Swords From the A. E. Waite tarot deck This card symbolizes the need for deep rest, sacred rest. I'm not talking about the kind of rest that you grab when you can, after tackling every single chore on your...

I'm pulling back the curtain today. You may have wondered why I'm always so determined to put a picture of EXACTLY the card I drew in my Magic Mondays email! Or, well, maybe you haven't. There's a lot on everyone's minds right now. But there IS a very important reason why I never use a generic "3 of cups" picture when I'm actually pulling from my Illuminated Visions Deck, and why I wouldn't pull an AI image of "herbs" for the card I pulled yesterday. It's because: THE MEANINGS OF THE CARDS...
