It seems ironic. I'm writing this literally in the middle of a blizzard, but... The Sun is returning. Despite the fact that my whole state is covered in snow, the days are already starting to get longer. The light is returning, and just this weekend I saw some buds on trees. This morning, looking out my window, we saw a chipmunk sitting on his front porch, watching the snow. The signs are just that: signs. Signals, for those who know how to look, and how to trust, that the sun is coming back. This week's message:It's time to welcome the sun's energy and celebrate the sun's return. Think of it this way: The sun is returning, at the start of it's journey. It's literally just a little baby sun! Just like any small child, it craves acknowledgement, attention, and obvious affection. Even when it's not being particularly useful yet. The sun needs some positive reinforcement from us this week.
This week my teacher, The Chakra Witch, asked us - Can you act as if Spring is coming, even though it's still cold, snowy, and bleak? (I'm paraphrasing, here). This is the week where we need to continue to act in the knowledge & alignment that springtime is on its way, even though we can't necessarily see it yet. I'm not saying put on your sundresses, yet. But it *is* time to start planning. So, maybe you're not booking plane tickets yet, but you're bookmarking hotels, choosing dates and destinations, and making sure you get that passport renewed. Maybe you're not planting your seeds yet for your garden, but you are buying them, and figuring out which seeds will go where, and when they need to be put in the ground. Think: Spring Cleaning Energy You're preparing the way for your spring to start. Clearing old energy away and making room for what you will grow this year. Creating actual plans to help that happen. A note on the sun and gender:General wisdom has always made out that the Sun is a masculine energy, the Moon is feminine. Or that the Sun is a masculine counterpoint to feminine earth. That hasn't really resonated with me. I always have imagined the sun as a woman, as much as the sun would have any gender at all. So when I read this last week, a big part of my heart went FUCK YES! "Early Celts perceived the sun to be a feminine symbol, renewed every year at Yule and progressing through the year from that point. The Celts considered woman the source of creation, and from her womb and body came all life. Originally, she was the Sun Moon, Earth, and Stars. Only later, when Roman and Christian influences came into play, did the whole cosmology get translated into paternal terms and the Sun became male. This unnatural alteration, substituting male for female, not only created an enormous energetic imbalance, but effectively devalued women, stealing their power and light, making sovereignty of the land a concept of the past, and hence ignorantly exploiting the Earth's resources. " - Sirona Knight, 2000. A bit of late-night googling showed that many mythologies have sun goddesses, not gods! Including the Norse goddess Sol, the Irish goddess Aine, Japanese goddess Amaterasu, and the Inuit goddess Malina. Do I think that the sun is really a woman vs. a man? I mean, gender is a construct, right? But right now it feels right to me that the sun is a woman, so if that's you too, just know you're not the only one. What to do this week:Practical:

I can't wait to see how this goes for you (and for me)! Reply to this email with your takeaways, and please go ahead and forward it to a friend who needs a little extra sunshine. <3 Megan |
