Magical Mondays: Anger and Authority

King of Wands

What is making you angry lately?

Not just a little angry, or a little worried, but - what is filling you with a fiery, righteous rage?

Whatever it is, the King of Wands says it’s time to stop watching from the sidelines and just getting progressively worked up.

“You’re the King,” this card says. “Stop acting like your voice, your actions, your take on this issue isn’t relevant.”

I understand you’re worried you might be too angry to be rational about this. You worry that your intervention might not go as planned, might even make it worse somehow.

But a King who just sits and waits for the big problems to somehow solve themselves? That’s not a very good ruler.

Yes, there is wisdom in holding back sometimes, but not all the time, and not right now.

The message this week is to embrace your authority in your own life, and as a leader whose voice matters and can make things better. Don’t let “discretion is the best part of valor” hold you back from taking action to fix the things that make you angry.

Practical: Act, don’t react.

This is a week to practice your sovereignty in your own life. Plan your week with your own personal goals and priorities in mind* and don’t yield. Prioritize your priorities this week, don’t let them take a back seat to everyone elses.

If there’s a cause or an issue that’s been on your mind & heart lately - take action to help. Maybe this is speaking your mind about it to your friends and family, or maybe it’s by calling your representative, volunteering, or donating. Practice using the power you have for a cause you care about.

Magical: Channel your anger

How do you normally deal with your anger? Do you ignore it until it goes away? Do you yell? Do you go for a long walk? Do you take deep breaths and count to ten?

One thing I’m almost positive you don’t do (unless you’re super weird, like me) is bathe in it. Marinate in it. Let the feeling wash over you.

Try it this week.

When the anger is on you, take 5 minutes to sit quietly and let the anger burn and boil. Breathe deeply and focus on noticing your anger, how it feels in your body, and how it responds to your breath and different thoughts.

Ask yourself:

  • Where in my body do I feel this most strongly?
  • If this anger was a physical thing…. what shape would it be? What color?
  • What temperature is this anger?
  • What does it sound like?

Once you’ve taken the time to really get to know the anger ask:

“What if this anger could talk? What would it want me to know?”

Anger is normally a sign that something in your life or your world needs your attention. Listening & channelling that anger (almost as if your anger is a little spirit guide here to give you an important message) will help you figure out what aligned action is called form.

Then, you can do it!

Did you know - I've never pulled this card before. Not in over 2 years of working with tarot. Not for me, and not for anyone else. I'm always excited when a card pops up like this, seemingly from nowhere. It's a signal that things are changing.
