Do you know how annoying it is to try to "gentle parent" a toddler? If you aren't familiar, gentle parenting, at is essence, is committing to be a safe place for your toddler to have the full range of emotions and experiences that come along with, well, being a toddler. Which means that you sit with them through the tantrums, the meltdowns, and the "I JUST CAN'T DO THIS", without telling them to suck it up and stop crying. But also, without taking away the problem, or stepping in to solve it for them. Yesterday this looked like me sitting on the bathroom floor while my kid screamed and cried because he could not take off his wet pants because they were wet and he "could not do it". "It's ok," I said to my son. "I know that you can do this. And I will wait right here with you until you are ready to try again." I don't believe it's a coincidence that I am gentle parenting a toddler at the same time I am trying to launch my first group program and grow my coaching business. It's the same work. Honestly, it's always been the same work. It's a familiar pattern. I am, of course, the toddler on the bathroom floor who wants to cry and scream and say that "I JUST CAN'T DO THIS!" and I want someone else to do it for me. I want my coach to tell me how to make it work. I want someone else to come up with words and pictures and videos that will help find the people who are meant to be in this group program. And, frustratingly, just as I know that my 4 year old is completely capable of taking off his own pants (I've seen him do it, often at the most inconvenient times), I know that I am capable of the work it takes to create an amazing, life-changing, group coaching program. So, here I am, showing up, and trying again. I'm creating a program for women who are committed to showing up before they feel sure they can do the thing, because they know that doing the thing is how they build confidence. I'm creating a program for women who are committed to gentle-parenting their inner child, because if yelling at her or ignoring her or telling her to "just calm down" could work, it would have worked already. I'm creating a program for women who are working on being able to show up, take up more space, and be the change they want to see in their communities, but honestly want a safe space to practice that because it's really freaking scary sometimes. I'm creating a program for women who know that there are no gurus, right answers, or "shoulds" except that quiet voice inside of them that is slowly growing louder and louder, and who want to learn how to work with that inner knowing. I'm creating a program for women who have tried SO MANY programs, and have come to the frustrating realization that the only program that will really work is the one they make themselves, but want a structure and a support group while they do that. If you are looking for a program that is going to change your pants for you, this is not it. Because I know you can do it, and I am going to stay here with you until you are ready to try again. <3 Megan |
