Guess who’s back? Magical Mondays! (But not for long! Read to the end for important updates!)
Today I’ll be pulling 2 cards for us: one for this week, and one for the month of November.
Let’s start with this week’s card:
Autumn
I mean, could the cards be more on-the-nose this week? But this is more than just a reminder of the season we’re in. It’s a card that begs us to ask ourselves a question. So get your journals out this week, and give some thought to the images on the card.
- Autumn Leaves- what are you ready to let fall away? The leaves have done their job, and now they are done. They’ll fall off, and drift into delightfully crunchy piles before disintegrating back into the earth. What are the things in your life that have finished their job, or are no longer useful, that you would like to release, and let go of completely?
- Mushrooms - what are you taking energy from? Mushrooms feed on dead and living matter, taking nutrients to grow and spread. You might think of this as a way to “compost” something that didn’t quite work. Can you harvest your energy back from that, and try something new? Or, if that doesn’t resonate, just ask yourself where are you getting your energy from these days? What is giving you life, inspiration, and the will to keep moving forward?
- Berries/Seeds - What are you ready to plant or grow?Plants drop their seeds in the fall. Berries, acorns, and the seeds of flowering plants all fall to the ground, settling into the earth to lie dormant through the cold winder months. That dormancy is important for the plants to grow in the spring. What’s an idea you have, either something you’ll be trying again (but different) or something you want to see bloom next year that you can plant now, even if that just means the seed sits quietly in your heart until the growing season starts again?
Next, our card for the month of November:
Listen
As the days grow darker and the veil grows thin, this is the perfect time to practice getting quiet and simply listening. It’s a skill we can all practice and cultivate.
This might look like 5 minutes of quiet each morning when you wake up, before you look at your phone.
I went to a retreat center last march where they had silent breakfast - no chatting in the dining hall, just sitting together in peaceful silence!
If that feels like a reach, I also recommend one of my favorite meditation tracks: Listen, by Alan Watts and Boreta. You can find this on Spotify or wherever you stream your music. Take a listen - that’s all you need to do, and watch how it helps you calm down and tune in.
Alright loves, so that was your monthly forecast. Here are some updates on Magical Mondays:
- This publication is moving to Substack. Partially because I think it’ll work well there, but also because I don’t feel like paying $350 to renew my Kit subscription right now. I’ll do my best to transfer everyone over, and it’s still free to read, but please go ahead and subscribe to Magical Mondays on Substack to keep on this list!
- I’ll also be doing a blog/essay style substack at Small, Bright Magic
