Magical Mondays: Devotion to Self

Welcome to Magical Mondays, where every week I draw a card for us to give some guidance and direction in a world that... well, you know. If you got this email forwarded, you can click the link below to subscribe so you don't miss out!

Todays card is:

the High Priestess

When I look at this card Sovereign is the first word that comes to mind.

The message of the high priestess traditionally is: intuition, inner wisdom, divine guidance.

This one, in particular, is covered in moon imagery, with the triple moon crowning her head, and she's wreathed in pink blossoms.

It's going to be a looking-inward kind of week, as opposed to a facing-outward sort of week.

This combined with the New Moon energy sends a message that this is a time of starting new cycles, and finishing old.

AND, it falls on the equinox, the peak of harvest season and a time to prepare for the darker half of the year.

What this means for us:

You might feel extra reflective and thoughtful this week. Lean in to that energy. It's a great time to slow down, just a bit, after the rush of the school year starting and the business of fall. Sure, sometimes celebrating fall means heading out to wineries, pumpkin patches, and festivals, but it's also the time to start nesting, cuddling up with warm blankets and comforting traditions.

This week especially, let yourself lean into a slower pace, with plenty of time to watch the change of the seasons, and the changes you're observing in yourself.

How to bring this energy into your week:

  1. Carve out some time to journal, reflect, or meditate. This is a week that calls for a bit of extra stillness, but not necessarily in a "rot on the couch" sort of way. More in a devotional, self-care kind of way. Set a date for yourself to spend time with, well, your self in a way that feels authentic and a little bit romanticized.
  2. Practice Gratitude. I know you might have a complex relationship with gratitude, especially at a time where the world at large seems to be getting scarier and harder. Try to focus in on very specific things you feel truly grateful for. For example: instead of being grateful for "your job", which on some days might actually feel more like a burden, or a stressor, than a blessing, focus on the gratitude you feel for that one co-worker who you love talking with, and who always brightens your day.
  3. Romanticize Ritual. The high priestess doesn't so much "romanticize her life" as she commits to honoring the divine magic in each day. Maybe you turn your daily shower into a cleansing ritual by intentionally washing any energetic build-up down the drain and starting fresh. Maybe you speak your intentions over your morning coffee and slowly savor that first sip. Don't add anything extra. Instead, focus on honoring the ritual inherent in what you already do.

What do you think? Does this reading resonate, or does the Hight Priestess mean something else for you this week?

I'm pulling back the curtain today. You may have wondered why I'm always so determined to put a picture of EXACTLY the card I drew in my Magic Mondays email! Or, well, maybe you haven't. There's a lot on everyone's minds right now. But there IS a very important reason why I never use a generic "3 of cups" picture when I'm actually pulling from my Illuminated Visions Deck, and why I wouldn't pull an AI image of "herbs" for the card I pulled yesterday. It's because: THE MEANINGS OF THE CARDS...

There are things all over your life and world that are already magical, but that you rarely notice, or just don't know how to tap into. That's the message of this week's card: The Herbs From Herbana Witch Oracle Deck by Alice Cuidi & Cecilia Lattari Herbs are mystical, magical plants that can be used to heal, soothe, and energize our bodies, if only we knew the mystical magical ways they work! Right? Think again. Most of the herbs that you'd find in a magic shop or for that matter on a...

I remember the first time we talked about your work life balance, and you were already doing so well. Not only were you crushing it at work, but you were also monetizing your hobbies, and volunteering, and taking classes. Of course you didn't have a work-life balance problem! But, also... You were eating your lunch in your car in a nearby parking lot, because even with your door closed colleagues would come in and interrupt you while you were on break. And you were holding your pee for way...
