Let me feed you! (A Metaphor)

The economy is going bonkers. We have, at the same time, a lot of money to spend on things we don't need and not quite enough money to afford the things we *do* need.

I've been thinking about this today as I'm once again in my head about what it means to charge for coaching. Why would my clients pay me instead of creating this change on their own, or through less expensive options like self-help books or listening to free podcasts?

Here's my answer:

It's the difference between buying a cookbook vs. buying a personal chef.

I have MANY cookbooks. And sometimes I will cook from them.

There are lots of recipes inside that work really, really well for me and my family.

And there are also lots of recipes that I will probably never, ever make.

There are also recipes that I try and.... don't have the desired effect. I end up needing to modify them to suit my own preferences or the ingredients I have on hand.

Either way, no cookbook will ensure that I am fed for any given meal.

If I had a personal chef (I do not. I am not yet in this income bracket. TBH grocery delivery is a luxury for us right now.) I would have delicious food for every meal.

And if the recipe wasn't quite right? I'd have a professional to talk to about why, and what we could change next time. My preferences, my allergies, all this would be considered. I'd still play a part in helping set the menus and the goal, but I wouldn't be worried if dinner would be on the table.

Personal Chef is also very different from going to a restaurant, where someone else has set the menu and I can take it or leave it (some coaches and therapists do work like this, but not me. I am a personal chef, not an Applebees, or even a French Laundry).

What you end up getting from a personal chef is a custom solution that ENSURES the results (i.e. you always are fed).

Not everyone can afford a personal chef. And not everyone who can afford a personal chef actually wants to pay for one.

But for people who want to be SURE that they always have a meal they LOVE on the table in front of them when they are hungry? It's worth the investment.

This is why my clients eventually make the investment in coaching with me.

They didn't want a chance at success, at a life the loved. They wanted to know that it would happen, and quickly. They wanted to know that when things seemed hard, or weren't quite working, that they would have dedicated one-on-one support.

I'm working on an email series called "if I didn't want to hire a Life Coach" which will be a cookbook of sorts and will help you make a few great meals which could, in time, turn into you being the next Rachel Ray or Ina Garten. Who knows?

Like my More Money Less Problems course, it will be available for free.

But I have to be honest, though it's going to give you all the ingredients you need? It still doesn't hold a candle to my Personal Chef Service.

Today's card is......(drumroll please!) The Fool. Card 0. The Very. First. One. I drew this card and immediately was called to pull up this song on youtube (and the music video is even more charming than I can remember). Because, you see, the inner perfectionist in me? The good girl? The one who hates to be bad at something (especially in public) she used to hate the Fool card. What is a fool, she thought, except something useless, inconvenient, and unpredictable. The one who messes...

"I am woman, hear me roar!" "I'm feeling delusional and unhinged today, so that's the energy I'm bringing." What do you think a session with me would be like? Even if you've had one with me before, I don't think you quite understand what's in the works right now. When I started coaching it was all about thoughts. Changing your thoughts and changing how much control they have over you. Now it's gotten hotter and weirder. In the past month I've lead clients through chakra cleanses time-travel...

Good morning, Reader I did not send out my usual Magical Monday email yesterday because.... I forgot my tarot cards at home. Whoops! So I decided I'd send it out today instead but.... I forgot them again. No matter, though! Because I did have a book literally JUMP OUT of my shelf at me this morning and so I brought that with me. It's a book my sister Erin got for me for Christmas, and I've not read much of yet. So today for our magical message we are doing some bibliomancy! (Bibliomancy, if...
